The weekly jam, the radio show, and what we do for young musicians.
For the Love of Jazz has been putting live jazz in front of northern Nevada audiences since 1974. What that means in practice is a handful of things we do every week, every month, and every year.
The weekly jam
Every Thursday night at Lo-Bar Social, musicians meet to play together. It costs nothing to play and nothing to listen, and anybody who can hold their own on a standard is welcome to sit in.
Jazz on the radio
Saturday nights on KNCJ 89.5 FM, four hours of jazz presented by people from this organisation.
Young musicians
Scholarships, instruction from working players, and chances to play in an ensemble. Most people who make a living at this music got their start because somebody older bothered with them.

Instruments
A horn in a cupboard is worth nothing. In a student's hands it is worth a great deal. We take instruments in any condition, have them repaired, and put them where they will be played.

Concerts
We promote and present concerts through the year, and we list what everybody else is doing too, because a jazz scene is bigger than any one organisation.
How it is paid for
Memberships, donations and grants. There is no other money: everybody involved is a volunteer, and what comes in goes to the musicians, the rooms and the students.
