Peter Epstein

Peter Epstein began his career in Portland before studying jazz saxophone and world music at CalArts, launching a path that has since included more than 50 recordings and international tours with artists such as Brad Shepik, Ralph Alessi, Bobby Previte, Jim Black, Scott Colley, Ravi Coltrane, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. He has released seven acclaimed albums as a leader and is a founding member of New York’s School for Improvisational Music, teaching workshops at major institutions across the U.S. and abroad. After earning his M.M. from the University of Nevada, Reno, he joined the UNR faculty, where he now serves as director of jazz and improvisational music, associate professor of jazz saxophone, and a member of The Collective, while also appearing with the Reno Philharmonic, Reno Chamber Orchestra, and Reno Jazz Orchestra. His honors include the 2013 Nevada Regents’ Award for Creative Activities and a 2014 Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship.
