Carl Schultz

saxophone, woodwinds

Carl Schultz is a saxophonist, composer, woodwind specialist, and educator currently serving as the Director of Jazz Studies at Santa Clara University. Originally from the Philadelphia area, he earned his Bachelor of Music from SUNY Purchase College, a Master of Music from The University of the Arts, and a Doctor of Music Arts from the University of Colorado. Over his career, he has toured extensively as a member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra and performed with various modern jazz large ensembles. While based in California, Schultz maintains strong musical ties to the regional Nevada scene—frequently collaborating with local artists like bassist Zack Teran (such as on his science-fiction-inspired album The Road to Trantor, which features both tenor saxophone, flute, and electronic soundscapes) and serving as a guest clinician and artist educator for programs like the Reno Jazz Festival.
